Comeback Sauce

Comeback Sauce. Apparently, it's a southern thing. And let's face it, they just make things taste really really good in the south! When I first read about Comeback Sauce, it was a Pinterest find, one of those pins that everyone was pinning and repinning.  It lead me back to the recipe from Syrup and Biscuits. From what I have read, it's mainly Mississippi and Alabama. Let me tell you.... These people are smart! I have traveled in the south, but mainly the Carolina's and Texas, so I have never been lucky enough to run into this before.


It looks like there are lots of recipes with every one having their favorite. I love the one that I tried, it was perfect to serve at my dad's retirement party. It was good for so many things! Veggies, chips, turkey sandwich, everything except the cake! Who knows.... Maybe I should have tried it on the cake. Ok, no. I'll stand by my decision and keep it off the sweets.



Comeback Sauce  (Source: Syrup and Biscuits)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4  cup ketchup
1/4 cup chili sauce (look for the ketchup like (Heinz) chili sauce - not the spicy hot stuff)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp ground black pepper


Mix all ingredients well.  Refrigerate for 24 hours before using.
Keep refrigerated. Store in air tight container.

  2. I've lived in Texas for a long time and never heard of this sauce. This sounds awesome! Maybe living on the border we are more Tex-Mex than Southern. I'm going to try this. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Hello! This is a popular recipe here in the Heart of Dixie! We love it on our chicken fingers, but as you said, it goes well on almost anything! I've never made it, since I've only had it in restaurants, so thanks for sharing the recipe! You really need to come to Alabama one day! You just might not want to go back home! Loving my Sweet Home!   9. Hi, I'm from South Carolina and my entire family has been enjoying this sauce for quite some time. BUT… I must say, I like the name of your recipe a lot better than the name I know it as… "Yum Yum Sauce"… I'm serious…LOL

  11. Kumback (or Comeback) dressing/sauce originated at Dennery's Restaurant in Jackson, Mississippi in the late 1940's. It was so popular that the other Greek restaurants in Jackson developed their own versions and it eventually spread. Cat Cora is a product of the Greek restaurant heritage in Jackson.

  12. I'm from Idaho, the great potato state. We have a similar sauce for our fries. We just call it fry sauce, this sounds better! Will have to try it, even on my burgers! Thanx for sharing!
